Professor of Design, FBAUP
Rui Mendonça is a professor at FBAUP (Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto), working in the faculty's Design department.[1] He completed a doctorate on the poster (cartaz) as a design object; his doctoral research assembled a collection of some 1,500 works by FBAUP professors and students plus hundreds of posters by other authors, an archive of more than a thousand posters he later deposited with the faculty.[2]
Identity design
As a designer, Mendonça redesigned the visual identity of the University of Porto in 2004, represented as "U.Porto," and in 2016 designed the new identity that transformed the Instituto Politécnico do Porto into "P.Porto."[2] He has also worked with institutions including the University of Porto Rectory, the Museu D. Diogo de Sousa, and the Museu do Brinquedo de Ponte de Lima.[3]
Publishing & teaching
Mendonça is a published author at Eterogémeas, the illustrated-books imprint run by fellow FBAUP designer Luís Mendonça (Gémeo Luís).[4] He was also one of André Correia's professors during his master's studies.
