The European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union, responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, and managing the day-to-day business of the EU. It is headquartered in Brussels.
André Correia
André Correia worked at the European Commission from September 2014 to September 2016, first as Senior UX Designer and then, from August 2015, as Lead UX Designer / Design Manager on the Digital Transformation Team, which developed the Commission's new unified web presence.[1] As Senior UX Designer his work included qualitative user research, concept creation and information architecture, usability and accessibility analysis, and wireframing and prototyping. As Design Manager he supervised the design team, developed its roadmap, maintained the JIRA backlog, and represented the team in change-management and project-management meetings.[1]
Better Regulation Portal ("Have Your Say")
André led the full product design process — user research, UX/UI design, user testing, and implementation guidance — for the Better Regulation Portal, the platform through which European citizens can share their views on draft laws that implement, amend, or supplement EU regulations.[1]
The portal, since renamed "Have Your Say," is part of the Commission's Better Regulation agenda, aimed at improving the quality of EU policymaking by giving stakeholders direct input at every stage of the legislative process.[3] The Commission gave the portal a major public relaunch in 2020, several years after André's work on it.[4]
Documentum Transformation
André also worked on the Documentum Transformation: an information-architecture analysis and migration of websites across different Directorates-General onto the Commission's new web portal, guiding external webmasters and editors through the move from the legacy Documentum platform to Drupal under the "Next Europa" style guide.[1]
This migration replaced the Commission's Documentum-based Corporate Web Content Management System (and a temporary Drupal 7 multisite platform) with the new "Next Europa" Drupal 7 platform, consolidating around 100 sites across 24 languages.[5] The platform has since grown substantially: by the mid-2020s it hosted around 770 live sites for 44 different Commission services, drawing roughly 700 million visits and 2.2 billion page views a year.[5]
