Project Overview
Compensate is a non-profit foundation creating a system where carbon dioxide emissions caused by our consumption can be compensated easily at the time of the purchase with partner companies. Compensate directs the compensation payments fully to carbon sink projects. Read more at https://compensate.com
I volunteered alongside colleagues from Smartly to help Compensate improve their metrics' visualization and to better communicate with users how they're working to compensate for global carbon emissions.
Ideation & Scoping Workshop
After coming up with a list of all the different components we could develop during our 1-day hackathon I facilitated an ideation & scoping workshop where we quickly sketched up some of our ideas on the whiteboard to see what would be feasible to develop in just 8 hours and what would bring the most added value to Compensate.

Designs
After discussing the possible projects that we could get involved during our 1 day hackathon we settled on designing and developing an interactive globe of Compensate's active projects around the world and another page with modular components that show Compensate's most relevant metrics.

This interactive globe quickly shows the different ongoing projects that Compensate has around the world.

You can either click a location on the globe to highlight and expand the information on the right or you can click an item on the list and the globe will rotate to center on that location.

Contribution Metrics
Compensate didn't have a page where you could see some of the most important metrics regarding the activity of the company in its mission to offset carbon emissions.

With a design in sync with their guidelines and an emphasis on the values achieved we want to help them get their message across.

The numbers grow dynamically when scrolling into view and the images use a parallax effect in order to keep users engaged.
